Statement of European Science, Technology and Innovation Councils on the Current Situation of the Academic Community in Iran
Vandaag verklaren verschillende Europese adviesraden zich solidair met de mensen in de academische gemeenschap in Iran. Wij zijn bezorgd over het geweld tegen en de arrestaties van studenten en universiteitspersoneel. Gezamenlijk roepen wij de Iraanse autoriteiten op de academische vrijheid en de universele mensenrechten te respecteren en te beschermen.
The signatories of this statement are deeply concerned about the situation of the academic community in the Islamic Republic of Iran. For several weeks, protests have taken place at various Iranian universities where many students, professors, and other university members have experienced violence and/or been arrested by security forces.
The European Science, Technology and Innovation Councils listed below express their solidarity with the members of the academic community in Iran. They call on the Iranian authorities to protect and respect the right to academic freedom and the right to freedom of expression according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
This statement is made together with the Danish Council for Research and Innovation Policy (DFiR), the Flemish Advisory Council for Innovation and Enterprise (VARIO), the German Commission of Experts for Research and Innovation (EFI), the German Science and Humanities Council (WR).
